Unlocking a lower shot noise limit in dual-comb interferometry

چکیده

Optimizing the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is critical to achieve high sensitivities across broad spectral ranges in dual-comb interferometry. Sensitivity can be improved through time-averaging, but only at cost of reduced temporal resolution. We show that it instead possible use high-bandwidth detection combined with frequency-domain averaging multiple copies beat note. By controlling signal and noise stationarity properties, one even reduce fundamental shot contribution compared normal, single copy, operation where integration time matched to, or larger than repetition period. In principle, Na aliased will improve SNR by up Na, equivalently, acquisition a factor Na. demonstrate interferometry using = 5 aliases, achieving predicted fivefold reduction power density low frequencies. Over full spectrum, unaveraged relative intensity limits SNR, we measure 1.65× fold improvement CO2, corresponding 2.7× for given precision.

Beating the shot-noise limit

The current shot-noise of an electron beam is proportional to its average current and the frequency bandwidth. This is a consequence of the Poisson distribution statistics of particles emitted at random from any source. Here we demonstrate noise suppression below the shot-noise limit in optical frequencies for relativistic electron beams. This process is made possible by collective Coulomb inte...

Electro-optic dual-comb interferometry over 40  nm bandwidth.

Dual-comb interferometry is a measurement technique that uses two laser frequency combs to retrieve complex spectra in a line-by-line basis. This technique can be implemented with electro-optic frequency combs, offering intrinsic mutual coherence, high acquisition speed and flexible repetition-rate operation. A challenge with the operation of this kind of frequency comb in dual-comb interferome...

Coherent-light-boosted, sub-shot noise, quantum interferometry

We present in this paper a new scheme for optical interferometry. We utilize coherent-beam-stimulated two-mode squeezed light, which interacts with a phase shifter and is then squeezed again before detection. Our theoretical device has the potential to reach far below the shot-noise limit in phase sensitivity. This new proposal avoids the pitfalls of other setups, such as difficulty in creating...

Shot-noise of quantum chaotic systems in the classical limit

Semiclassical methods can now explain many mesoscopic effects (shot-noise, conductance fluctuations, etc) in clean chaotic systems, such as chaotic quantum dots. In the deep classical limit (wavelength much less than system size) the Ehrenfest time (the time for a wavepacket to spread to a classical size) plays a crucial role, and random matrix theory (RMT) ceases to apply to the transport prop...

Towards the Quantum Noise Limit in Ramsey-Bordé Atom Interferometry

In this work, the relevant noise sources in atom interferometers of Ramsey-Bordé type were investigated, which are the noise of the excitation induced by the interrogation and the noise of the detection of the excitation. In the first part of the work, the methods for the considerable reduction of the frequency noise of the interrogation laser in the low and in the high frequency range are desc...
